The child should experience nature in all its aspects - form, energy, substance, sound & colour. - Frederick Froebel

B.B. King

Outdoor Play

We are passionate about Children spending lots of time outdoors and exploring the natural environment. Our children spend most of their day outdoors.

As mentioned we are inspired by Frederick Froebel's theory & how he believed the way children can truly experience nature, is through play outdoors...

The benefits of outdoor play....

Health & well-being

Exploring the natural world

Gross motor development

Being outdoors has so many health benefits for us all, that includes children. Research shows that being outdoors boosts children's self-esteem and mental health. Exercise releases chemicals that help regulate our mental health. Just ten minutes of physical activity can have a significant impact on the psychological and emotional wellbeing of children - boosting self-esteem, lowering anxiety, and reducing stress. The outdoors is the perfect place to encourage and engage children in physical activity.

Gross motor development

When children explore outside, they have the freedom and space to move their bodies in many more different ways. From running, jumping, climbing to negotiating space and becoming more spatial aware.

While doing this, children are developing their gross motor skills.

By allowing the opportunity for children to develop their gross motor skills, it gives them confidence within their physical development.

Exploring the natural world

There is so much awe and wonder outdoors! Children have access to so many learning opportunities. From the seasonal changes to observing wildlife and nature. There is always a new topic to explore.

There is something magical about exploring the natural world with children.

Making relationships

Playing outdoors gives children space and opportunity to build on their relationships. From communicating their ideas, interests and building on their team work skills.

Connections are made while learning with one another.

Vitamin D

Making relationships

Risky play

Vitamin D helps our bodies to regulate calcium and phosphate, keeping bones, muscles, and teeth healthy. Vitamin D increases the production of serotonin, essential for supporting  our mood and is linked to happiness. Serotonin affects our brains and nervous system, aiding cognitive development, improving memory and concentration.

Risky play

We are so passionate about the benefits of risky play.

The most confident & resilient children are the ones who have been allowed to truly explore and risk take in the environment.

By allowing children to take risks, it teaches them about safety, problem solving skills & risk assessment, while  they learn about their own bodies.

Our Children are taught about the natural environment & we love the process of growing plants and vegetables together. From those little hands planting tiny seeds, to the excitement on their faces when they notice those first little shoots. There is something very magical about experiencing nature with children.
